A Brisbane Weekend for Makers: Markets, Workshops and Craft Classes
How to plan a maker-focused weekend in Brisbane: which markets run when, beginner craft workshops worth booking, and a sample two-day plan for November 2026.
If you like making things, or just like watching other people make things, Brisbane has enough going on to fill a whole weekend. The trick is knowing what runs when: some markets are weekly, some are monthly, and most workshops need booking ahead.
This guide pulls together options I could confirm from organisers' own websites, plus a sample weekend plan. Everything was checked on 1 November 2026.
Check the organiser's page before you go. Workshop sessions sell out, market hours shift in summer, and storms can cancel outdoor events. Each item links to the organiser.
The weekly regulars
These are your reliable fall-backs. If you're free on a weekend, at least one of them is on.
The Collective Markets, South Bank
- When: Friday 5pm to 9pm, Saturday 10am to 9pm, Sunday 9am to 4pm
- Where: Little Stanley Street, South Bank
- Good for: a mix of makers, designers, art, fashion and food, right next to the parklands and galleries
- Note: The organiser lists it as closed for Riverfire and New Year's Eve.
- Organiser's page
Because it runs Friday night through Sunday, it's the easiest market to fit around anything else on this list.
West End Markets, Davies Park
- When: Saturdays from 6am (official page says until 2pm; some of the organiser's listings show a 1pm finish from December to February)
- Where: Davies Park, corner Montague Road and Jane Street, West End
- Good for: produce, breakfast, live music, fashion and handcrafted gifts under the fig trees
- Organiser's page
Northey Street Organic Farmers Market, Windsor
- When: Sundays 6am to 11am
- Where: Northey Street City Farm, 16 Victoria Street, Windsor
- Good for: an early start with organic produce, and the City Farm nursery if you're into gardening or natural dyeing
- Organiser's page
Monthly and seasonal handmade markets
BrisStyle Handmade Market, South Bank
Held at the Queensland Museum Whale Mall, usually on the last Saturday of the month, 10am to 3pm. Upcoming dates: Saturday 28 November and Saturday 19 December 2026. Free entry. Organiser's page
BrisStyle Twilight Market, King George Square
Friday evenings, 4pm to 9pm. Upcoming dates: Friday 13 November and Friday 18 December 2026. Organiser's page and my guide to the 13 November market.
The Market Folk Christmas markets
Seven free Christmas markets across Bowen Hills, Dutton Park, the CBD, Newstead and Hamilton between 27 November and 19 December 2026. Full list in Brisbane Christmas Markets 2026.
Beginner-friendly workshops
Markets are great for buying; workshops are where you get your hands dirty. These three cover different budgets and time commitments.
Clay and Sip, Brisbane City
Wesley Taylor Art Studios runs two-hour beginner hand-building sessions on Friday evenings, 6.30pm to 8.30pm, at Level 1, 91 Queen Street. The Visit Brisbane listing shows tickets at $29 and sessions through November and December 2026. You'll make small pieces from stoneware clay to take home; note that the listing explains firing isn't included, so you'd need to take pieces to a pottery studio to make them functional. Visit Brisbane listing
Good for: a low-cost Friday night taster before committing to a longer course.
Glen Wardle Ceramics, Carina
A home studio in Carina offering pottery wheel tasters, candle making, soap making, resin pouring and more, with workshops listed from $85 and no experience needed. They're also running a full-day Christmas Craft Retreat on Saturday 7 November 2026 (8.30am to 5pm), which combines pottery, ceramic painting, candle making and resin. Studio website ยท Christmas retreat
Good for: trying several crafts in one go, or making Christmas gifts with a guide.
A practical note from the studio's own page: in hot, humid weather, candles may not set in time to take home on the day. Plan for a possible second trip to collect.
Creekside Pottery Studio, Samford Valley
Themed hand-building workshops in the Samford Valley, with clay, tools, glazes and firing included. On Friday 20 November 2026 (6.30pm to 9.30pm) there's a Christmas Candles and Tree workshop where you make two clay candles and a small tree. Pieces are fired and glazed after the session and are usually ready to collect within two to three weeks. Workshops page
Good for: a fully finished, fired piece rather than air-dry clay. Allow for the collection time if you're making Christmas gifts.
A sample maker weekend (November 2026)
Here's one way to string it together. Swap pieces in and out depending on what's on.
Friday
- Finish work, head to the BrisStyle Twilight Market (if it's 13 November) or the Collective Markets' Friday twilight session at South Bank.
- Or book a Clay and Sip session on Queen Street for a hands-on evening.
Saturday
- Early breakfast and a wander at West End Markets.
- Late morning: if it's the last Saturday of the month, walk across to the BrisStyle Handmade Market at the Queensland Museum. Otherwise, the Collective Markets are open from 10am.
- Afternoon: rest out of the heat. A gallery visit in the Cultural Centre is a good air-conditioned option.
Sunday
- Early start at Northey Street Organic Farmers Market in Windsor.
- Afternoon: work on a project at home with what you picked up, or plan your next workshop booking.
Practical tips
- Book workshops early. Small studios cap numbers, and pre-Christmas sessions fill quickly.
- Ask what's included. Firing, materials and take-home packaging vary between workshops.
- Dress for mess. Clay, resin and wax all stain.
- Plan around the heat. Outdoor markets are best early in the day or in the evening.
- Use public transport for CBD and South Bank, where parking is expensive.
